Summary Note

Colonel James Buchli, astronaut and graduate of Class of 1975 with a degree in aeronautical engineering, returned to UWF in March 1985 to present the University (Larry McDaniel, UWF Foundation) with memorabilia flown aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery in January 1985.  Some of these items can be see in the University Archives and West Florida History Center, John C. Pace Library, and on the walls of the Alumni Room, Building 12.

  &nnsp; Buchli retired from the U.S. Marine Corps and the NASA Astronaut Office in 1992.  His missions for NASA included STS-51C (Discovery, 1985), STS-61A (Challenger, 1985)), STS-29 (Discovery, 1989), and STS-48 (Discovery, 1991).

Physical Description Note

Photograph, UWF Photograph Collection.  Used in 40th anniversary exhibit, XL107.  As of Sept. 02, 2015, plaque hangs in Alumni Room, Building12; constant exposure to light has faded Buchi's signature to illegibiity (DD)
