Summary Note
The University News began publishing on November 9, 1967 as the beginning of the University of West Florida's student newspaper. It announced that on November 10, 1967, the student body would vote on a mascot for the University. The issue of November 16 announced that the vote had been for the ARGONAUT. The article by Connie McElhany announced the vote and also the endearing qualities that as ARGONAUTS (perseverance, courage, self-motivation) the selection entailed.
