Summary Note

The Fessenden Academy and Vocational School was an African American school located in Fessenden, Florida, roughly 8 miles from Ocala. It was featured in the 1912 Edition of The Florida Sentinel, published in Pensacola, Florida in May, 1912. These photographs come from that article. It was one of the few educational institutions for African Americans in Florida in 1912.

  &nnsp; The caption for the photograph of the principal, Mr. Wiley, notes he has been there for fourteen years which may indicate the school operated as early as 1898.
