Photocopy records including history of the church and donation of its building to the Bagdad Historic Preservation Association, Minutes of the congregation (1938-1941) and Sunday School records (1918-1953). Congregation minutes report activities of the church, membership, financial reports, and policies; Sunday School records show attendance, teachers, and lessons used.

OTHER INFORMATION:

There are gaps in the continuity of the minutes of both minute books and Sunday School records; many records were written in pencil, hence the photocopies appear light.

The records indicate the Church also uses the name New Providence Baptist Church.

ADMINISTRATIVE HISTORY:

New providence Missionary Baptist Church, Bagdad Florida was founded in 1874. Its building, located in Bagdad, Florida, dates back to the 1874 period, with a cornerstone dated 1901. In 1988, the Church in seeking a new building, donated its original building to the Bagdad Historic Preservation Association for restoration and use as a museum.

The records, photocopied from the originals, indicate that the Church has also used the Name "New Providence Baptist Church" of "NPBC" in addition to the formal "New Providence Missionary Baptist Church."
