Scope and Contents

Records, 1947-1955, of a movie house in Cantonment, Florida, including correspondence, film booking records, financial and personnel files and other operating papers. Tone Theatre was part of the Fred T. McLendon Theatres operated in partnership with Heywood Hanna, Jr.

These materials were received with the Herbert L. Bryans papers donated in June 1982 by his son, Robert L. Bryans. It appears that Dr. Bryans rented the upstairs office of Bryans pharmacy to a number of firms and the records of these firms, if abandoned, became part of the Bryans accumulation.

Special note should be made about the statistical information in these records such as weather, films shown and attendance, and the tax records of Mr. Hanna which reflect his other business activities in Milton, Florida.

Permission may be granted by the Special Collections Librarian for such reprography dependent on issues of copyright, ownership, condition, donor agreements, etc. In general, staff do not make reproductions of copyright materials or materials for which title is not owned by the institution. Recent revisions in the U.S. Copyright Law extended the copyright of correspondence, letters, and other personal papers to the life of the author plus seventy years.
