Scope and Contents

Papers and research files, 1960-1975, including typescripts, photographs, research notes, drafts of publications, and other papers chiefly on history of Pensacola, its buildings and families.  Subjects and organizations include the Pensacola Historic Preservation Society, the Dorothy Walton House Foundation, the Seville Square Settlers, the Pensacola Historic Restoration and Preservation Commission (later the Pensacola Historic Preservation Board), the Downtown Improvement Board, the Dorothy Walton House Museum, the Quina House Museum, the Barkley House, the Tivoli House, Julee Cottage, and William F. Steel.

Families and name files include the Bell, Bobe, Bonifay, Brent, Commyns, Dauphine, De La Rua, Gonzalez, Horsler, Langley, Lavalle, LeVert, LeBarron, McVoy, Moreno, Pfeiffer, Perry, Quina, Sierra, Thiesen, Touart, Walton,  Willings, and Yniestra families.

With Abstracts and notes on properties and archaeology of areas of Seville Square.  Publications of Mrs. Sutton are included in the Bibliography of West Florida Files.

These research files are arranged first by events in chronological order, then the next group is information on houses and is arranged by lot and block and street addresses, the final group of family surnames and subjects are arranged alphabetically.

Open to researchers, dependent on our compliance with U.S. Copyright Law, HIPPA requirements, donor agreements and other applicable state and federal statutes.  Occasionally we may need to review a collection before permitting immediate access.

Conditions Governing Use

Digital photography, scanning, and photocopying of materials is prohibited.  Permission may be granted by the Special Collections Librarian for such reprography dependent on issues of copyright, ownership, condition, donor agreements, etc.  In general, staff do not make reproductions of copyright materials or materials for which title is not owned by the institution.  Recent revisions in the U.S. Copyright Law extended the copyright of correspondence, letters, and other personal papers to the life of the author plus seventy years.
